object theatre

Object Narratives - 6-10 people, ages 16+
Delve into the world of object theatre through a series of games and exercises geared to help us understand the stories that are hidden away in everyday objects. We will learn how to work collaboratively to develop impromptu storylines as well as individually to explore our individual relationships with particular objects. Emphasis will be placed on play and possibility.

shadow puppetry

Flashlights and Shadows: exploring depth in shadow puppetry - 6-10 people, ages 14+
Come explore how flashlights can transform shadow puppetry into a more cinematic experience. We'll play with depth, fades, focus and technique. Bring your favorite single point LED flashlight and shadow puppets. We will also have materials to build quick shadow puppets, some pre-made puppets and a couple of flashlights to share. (Your own flashlight is not required.)

Personal Narratives - groups of 5 people, ages 10+
Come with a true story and create shadow puppets to tell the tale. Participants will practice manipulating their puppets with various light sources to produce the desired dramatic effect. The author will record an audio version of the story that the group will use for a performance. abandoned ships is also available to create and produce a personal narrative piece for parties, fundraisers, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Moving Shadows - 6-10 people, ages 10+
Participants will explore hinges, stops, and triggers as methods to create moving shadows. Time will be allotted at the end for play and experiments in order to create short skits.

Shadow Shorts - 6-10 people, ages 8+
Bring a short story, idiom, poem, or song and create shadows to illustrate it. Participants will practice manipulating their puppets with various light sources to produce the desired dramatic effect. Each participant will lead their own piece as well as puppeteer in other pieces. This workshop culminates with a shadow show featuring each participant's piece.

Ensemble Movement - 10-16 people, ages 14+
in this workshop, we will explore the idea of movement with and within a group. We will learn the explore the difference between leading and following and try to discover a balance between the two. Emphasis will be placed on games and improvisation.

Movement & Emotion with Puppets (one) - 6-10 people, ages 10+
Learn how to use breath and intention to express emotion in puppetry. We will play around with simple objects (our hands, sticks, etc) through a series of exercises to develop short scenes and encounters that help us understand the how a puppet's movement relates to its intention

Movement & Emotion with Puppets (two) - 6-15 people, ages 12+
Learn how to create simple puppets using paper and everyday objects. We will learn how to collaborate through manipulation as we play with puppets that that more than one person to operate. Emphasis will be placed on using breath and intention to express emotion.
